As day from night

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden…” Matthew 5:14 ESV

As we are in the world there are some things of this world, we must deal with it cannot be entirely avoided. This does not mean that we have to do as they do, or think as they think. Indeed, there are things the world would encourage us to do and to think that are entirely forbidden to us, and which ought to be entirely foreign to us. To the worldlings lies may be useful, but to those who are indwelled by the Spirit of Truth they are evil. To the world conspiring in secret is prudent, but for those who walk in the light nothing good can be done in the dark.

Yes, we are in this world, and we will interact with it, and we will do things that the worldlings also do; but we will do them as children of the King, according to His precepts and in light of the truth. In this way we shine the light of the gospel into the darkness. We live a difference as that of day from night. This is why people might wonder about the hope that is in us, and why we should be ready to give a reason for it. And if this is true of us as individual believers, how much more shall it be true of our assemblies? All that we do together should shine forth the light with multiplied brilliance. Let us pay our taxes, and our bills, let us buy our groceries, and clean our houses, let us vote, and drive, and let us conduct business in a way that glorifies God and demonstrates His glory.

Let us interrogate our lives and see if they shine forth the light, let us not settle for doing things in the same way we did when were dead in sin; but let us seek to learn a more excellent way. Let us ask the questions and seek of God the answers. This is a process of learning and growing that is to our good and the good of the world.

Prayer

Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name. Help us to live as Your children here on Earth. Give us wisdom to walk as our Lord Christ would have us to walk. May we be aware of the indwelling Holy-Spirit receiving His help, and honoring His direction. Let us be lights everywhere we go and in everything we do reflecting Your marvelous light so that the darkness might be peeled back, the blind might see, and the dead might live all to Your glory alone. In Christ’s holy name we pray. Amen.
