Open the door

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 ESV

This is a picture oft reproduced, and we might wonder at its popularity for it is a tragic picture in which the rightful Lord has been set outside His own church. Ah, and the door has been closed to Him. That which He founded, and built-up, that which he had bought with His precious blood, that which He came down from heaven to seek has discarded Him. How could it be? How are hearts not broken by the image, by its wrongness.

Make no mistake that the picture of the church must be repeated in a majority of the individual hearts thereof. They claim Christ, but will not be claimed by Him. They keep Jesus out of His place, ignoring His humble petition for entry. These hard hearts alone suffer for their folly.

And here is the reason why the picture is so often seen, that Christ still stand at that door and knocks. The paragon of humility waits for His rights to be recognized and restored. He waits for the good of those within who have so terribly insulted Him. And if only they humble themselves to come and open again that door what a great reward, they shall have for our Lord promises them forgiveness. They could expect nothing but wraith, but instead they shall have fellowship. Then all good things shall be theirs for they shall Christ to abide with them.

Prayer

Father may the door of our heart, and the doors of our church be ever opened to the Lord’s entry. If ever they are shut against Him, may they be promptly destroyed, for how should His rights be denied Him? Nay Father let no such blasphemy stand. His rights must be secured as His glory cannot be diminished. We ask this in Jesus’ exalted named. Amen.
