Palm Sunday once again

So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, John 12:13-14 ESV

How delightful to see Jesus the Lord coming into the city. Well do these people welcome Him with joyous exclamation. They expect something great shall soon happen now that the Lord is arrived. Ah, but wait, the King of kings is not mounted on a mighty steed. The Lord of lord’s is not dressed in splendor. The Conqueror is not followed by an august host.  His entry is not after the fashion of great men.

He pursues more than worldly conquest, He seek something greater than earthly advancement. His purpose is more glorious than all others, and so He makes His triumphal entry in the most wonderful way, by setting aside all the glory He was rightly due. He prepares for humiliation by a display of great humility. Yes, it was all planned out well before, foretold by the prophets, and still it was missed. Even the disciples we are told did not understand till later.

These crowds who were cheering, and singing, and rejoicing would soon turn on the Son of God, and reject Him. They would prefer Barabbas to the Lord of Glory. What became of their songs, and cheers, and rejoicing? Men’s hearts were fickle then and are fickle now. We must take care then less it be Palm Sunday once again.

Prayer

Lord, we praise You for your humility. May we also have a humble spirit about us, following in your steps. O let not our praises fell, and hold our hearts which are prone to turn away. We would praise you still, for You suffered it all for all sake. We ask these things in Your great Jesus. Amen.
