The right way

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death. Proverbs 14:12 ESV

Any way may seem like the right one to anyone of us. There are a number of factors which may affect our judgement. This is a fact worth remembering, and carefully considering as the results of misjudging can be quite disastrous. We need to check our course carefully.

The great enemy in this endeavor is time. We feel so much constrained by time we often settle for a sense of rightness rather than a surety of rightness. This thinking is flawed, and it is flawed in that it forgets who establishes rightness. God establishes what is right, He lays out the right path which alone leads to life. As this is so we may have good hope of knowing right as we know God in Christ through the Spirit. Firstly, let us recognize that our Father in Heaven wants us to know the right way, His will, at each and every moment more than we ourselves might possibly want to know it. Now then, God can surely reveal the right way in the time given for He gives the time as well. Secondly, let us remember the tender mercy of God, and His patience so often displayed in scripture and take heart that the call to repent may be heard and heeded at any moment we are on this earth. Therefore, we ought not to think ourselves trapped. Even if we have made a wrong choice already, or a series of them, by grace our next choice can be a right one. We may suffer the consequence of past decisions as discipline, but we need not add suffering to suffering.

Finally, whatever we do let us be sure to do it prayerfully, and carefully. It may take more time now, but how much time might it redeem tomorrow? For if we walk in the right way we may walk with confidence and peace. What we may walk through only God knows fully, but this much we know from God that we will not walk into death if we walk in the right way.

Prayer.

Father save us from our folly, and teach us to know Your will readily. We ask this in the name of Jesus for the sake of Your glory. Amen.
